The CSMS jazz ensemble is one of the top performing groups at Small.  The ensemble consistently receives straight Division 1 ratings at Festivals.  Jazz Ensemble meets during the school day and students are placed by audition.
7th & 8th graders that play trombone, saxophone, trumpet, drum set, guitar, or piano may try out for this year long course.  Students are required to be enrolled in band, orchestra, or choir next year in order to try out for Jazz.
​We currently have 2 jazz performing groups at the school.

Wind Ensemble

This is the advanced ensemble of primarily 8th graders and a few 7th graders.  Students work on advanced fundamental skills and music literature, and compete in the Region Band festival.  Wind Ensemble students are required to be in Pep Band.

Symphonic Winds

This is our advanced Intermediate band  of 7th & 8th Graders.  Students focus on advancing their fundamental playing skills and begin instruction on full band music.  They perform 2-4 times each semester.   All students in Symphonic Band have opportunity to perform with the Pep Band as well.
